Introducing the First LINE App Redesign

2020.12.08 LINE App

TOKYO — December 8, 2020 — For the first time since its launch in 2011, the LINE app has gotten a redesign. Starting with the 10.21.0 version update, the new look offers a simplified and unified design, with a better user experience than ever.

The LINE messenger app launched on June 23, 2011, and today has more than 186 million monthly active users worldwide. With our mission “CLOSING THE DISTANCE,” LINE aims to bring people, information and services closer together to enrich users’ daily lives, and through our messenger be people’s access point to a more connected world. LINE continues to offer a variety of ways to communicate and improve the user experience to meet users’ needs.

The scope of the design renewal applies to all tabs in the app, and it’s the biggest change LINE has made since its launch. The theme of this renewal is “Simple, Wide and Bright,” as LINE aimed for simplicity and a unified design in making the app easier to use. The new colors are brighter than before, including the green, the symbolic color of LINE. Additionally, the icons have been redesigned and layouts in each tab have erased the navy header, making it easier for users to find the information and services they need.
