[Japan] LINE Checkout Launches Today: Links to the LINE App for Seamless E-commerce Experience

TOKYO – July 9, 2019 – LINE Pay Corporation, operator of the digital wallet service LINE Pay (http://line.me/pay) available on the LINE messaging app, launches LINE Checkout today. It makes purchases easier and more convenient by allowing LINE Pay merchants to access user information registered on the LINE platform to complete online purchases.

 

During LINE CONFERENCE 2018, the company announced the service concept of "LINE Pay for ID Payment" to help simplify online purchases by saving the user’s registered mailing address and credit card information, avoiding the need to enter them into each individual shopping site thereafter.

 

This service is officially available today as LINE Checkout. 

 

LINE Checkout is a service for LINE Pay online merchants. Integrating LINE Checkout into a website allows merchants to have access to user data (information registered by the user on LINE Profile+* that includes user name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address) required for online purchases when the user signs in to the merchant’s shopping site with his/her LINE ID. Merchants no longer need to acquire user data every time from new customers, and by connecting to the LINE messaging app with over 80 million domestic monthly active users, the entire journey—from registering on the shopping site, making payments, and having products delivered—is completed all on the LINE platform. 

*LINE Profile+ is a feature on the LINE app where users can enter their profile data at their discretion, which can then be called up easily in partner services. Go to the Home tab > Profile > LINE Profile+ to enter and manage LINE Profile+ data.

 

For users, LINE Checkout eliminates the hassle of registering personal information, managing passwords, and entering shipping/credit card information at each merchant website for a more simple and convenient shopping experience.

Operated by Bespo Inc., Bespo is jointly funded by LINE Ventures and KSK Angel Fund (owned by Keisuke Honda) and is a service to resolve reservation issues at restaurants and eateries. Users send a chat message to Bespo's LINE Official Account (@bespo) with preferences, such as date/time and type of cuisine. This information is then sent to restaurants with available seating that match the user's preferences, immediately pairing restaurants to users. Bespo allows users to discover restaurants that match their tastes but cannot be found through conventional searches. Restaurants can benefit by filling available seats more effectively.

By introducing LINE Checkout and leveraging registered user data on the LINE platform, Bespo now offers a seamless user journey—from reservation to payment— to enhance user experience and reduce operational costs.

 

Handling of Personal Information

Upon receiving user consent, merchants using LINE Checkout will have access to user data registered on LINE Profile+. When making payments for the first time on the merchant's shopping site, users must read and agree to the LINE Privacy Policy before proceeding to checkout. User consent is not necessary for subsequent purchases on the same shopping site.
