Tokyo, Japan – October 9, 2014 – LINE Corporation, owner and operator of the free call and messaging app LINE, has announced their decision to invest in Translimit, Inc. (referred to as “Translimit” below) via “LINE Game Global Gateway,” the game investment fund operated by LINE subsidiary, LINE Ventures Corporation.

 

Since LINE GAME launched in November 2012, LINE has accelerated its expansion both in Japan and overseas by offering a robust pipeline of games—developed both in-house and by third-party companies—to users worldwide through the LINE platform. Recently, LINE has expanded its focus on growth to the global stage, and in September 2014, created an investment fund entitled the LINE Game Global Gateway to target Japanese domestic game content and game development companies, as part of efforts to expand its gaming business.

 

Translimit, the first ever recipient of investments from LINE’s game fund, has experienced phenomenal success in the U.S., Asia, and more through its first creation and hit strategy battle game, “Brain Wars,” gaining users in more than 150 countries across the globe. 

LINE is extremely impressed with the developmental prowess of Translimit, which has enabled the startup company to create hit games popular worldwide, and sees Translimit as the perfect partner in terms of mutual global expansion going forward, ultimately leading to this investment decision. LINE will continue to support Translimit’s game content development as Translimit capitalizes on LINE’s extensive global user base in order to develop content for new games in the future. In addition, LINE’s investment into Translimit will be conducted in partnership with UNITED, Inc. (headquartered in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo; led by CEO Tomonori Hayakawa), as well as other organizations.

 

By accelerating the mutual expansion of both businesses through this investment deal, LINE will continue to provide users across the globe with high quality, made-in-Japan games.
